Rupert Reyes, actor/playwright, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976. He began his teaching career in Houston, Texas and then moved to work with the renowned Teatro De La Esperanza in Santa Barbara, CA. His work with this Chicano theater company led to his development as a playwright and actor. He founded his own theater company, Teatro Vivo, in Austin, Texas in 2000. In 2019, he wrote, produced and performed in Vecinos; Love Thy Neighbor a feature film based on his stage play, Vecinos. He continues to be involved with both theater and films. He can be seen in the Jason Sudeikis film, South of Heaven, and appearances in Queen of the South, Walker and Tulsa King. He was recently nominated by the Austin B. Iden Payne Award committee for best actor in Maude, a virtual play and The Frog Prince, a radio play. Cenicienta, a bilingual, children’s adaptation of the traditional Cinderella story will perform , April 2023 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
